I am excited to share that I had a poem published in Ink & Marrow last week! This poem sprung from an especially tender place in my heart, and I am deeply honored that people are reading it.
Equinox
Equinox: The moment when the Earth tilts neither toward or away from the Sun. On the day of an equinox, daytime and nighttime are of approximately equal duration all over the planet.
The phone came to life in the middle of the night—
its screen, a blinding headlight
on the bedside table.
My husband answered,
bleary-eyed and gravel-throated,
the downturn of his voice
sending smoke signals through my veins.
In the darkness, I saw nothing.
As long as he didn’t turn to me
and say the words that I suspected,
I would hover on the tip of an equinox,
suspended in equal parts day and night.
I tried to bend the will of the universe
with my own cosmic conviction,
howling loud enough
to tilt the axis of the Earth
back toward the Sun,
disbelief and delusion
dripping
from my mouth,
drying up
with each repeated wail.
So excited for you Allison! Your poem is beautiful and tender! So happy it found a place to land ❤️
Congratulations on publication! It's beautiful!
