Step One: Start with a generic holiday greeting. Include the words “I hope this letter finds you…”
Dearest Family and Friends,
Merry Christmas! I hope this letter finds you happy, healthy, and better-rested than I am.
Step Two: Share any adventures you had throughout the year. Be sure to include interesting destinations.
In February, we took our first family trip to the mountains! Much to our chagrin, our “snow-covered AirBnB” was not so snow-covered after all. However, we were only a short drive away from piles and piles of slushy ice. Miles (almost 3) delighted in sledding and snowballs for approximately 2 minutes, and then cried incessantly and demanded to leave. In July, we traveled to the Bay Area, where we took a train ride through the forest and ate dim sum in San Francisco. We also had the opportunity to tour Oakland’s state-of-the-art Urgent Care. (Turns out the rash was Hand, Foot, Mouth disease.)
Step Three: Prove that your child has the very best childhood. Share about any particular milestones or goals they met this year.
Miles participated in the following classes this year: gymnastics, cooking, art, music, and science. He lives a life full of enrichment, mainly because he is impossible to contain within the walls of our home. This Fall, he started providing grocery store tours to random children. His process involves walking up to them without saying a word, taking them by the hand, and leading them through the store. He continues to be very physical, both affectionately and not-so-affectionately. We are still working on differentiating between “soft” and “hard” things when it comes to what you can throw, especially when aimed at strangers’ heads.
Step four: Brag about personal and/or work achievements.
Alex continues to work at the same job remotely. He enjoys the flexibility of working from home and the perk of business trips to places like Bali and Costa Rica. To offset the exotic locale, he works out of the garage the rest of the year.
Step five: Zoom out from yourself and end with another holiday greeting to make sure you don’t come across as too self-centered.
We are thinking of you and yours this holiday. May you move into this next year by living, laughing, and loving.
Sincerely,
The [Allison Writes] Family
